- Orthopaedic surgeons can work in the academic setting (universities), be employed by a hospital system or medical group, or be in private practice. They typically see patients in the office 3-4 days per week and operate at a hospital or surgery center 1-2 days a week.
- Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, physical sciences, or a related field.
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
4 to 7 years’ internship and residency training, specializing in orthopedic surgery.
Valid and active medical license in the state you wish to practice.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Outstanding hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
Wonderful bedside manner.
