School nurses keep track of students vaccination records and update their medical history. They also maintain documentation on student care services.
Ensuring safety
School nurses ensure the school environment is safe for children and staff, including preventing communicable diseases.
Collaborating
School nurses collaborate with parents, teachers, and other professionals. They also work with the schools administration to establish health procedures and enforce compliance with health programs.
Advising parents
School nurses advise parents about when a child is too sick to come to school and when it is okay to send a sick child back to school.
School nurses typically need a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a valid nursing license
